I personally think psychological horror movies are more enjoyable than normal horror movies because they are so much more intense and intriguing. Most of the time, they bring more of an eerie and suspenseful theme to the movie as well. Now, let’s not waste anymore time and get into the 5 scariest psychological horror movies around.

#1. The Shining

The Shining is a great example of a psychological horror movie. It is about a father who is a writer and a mother and son who move into a closed off hotel to help Jack, the father, get rid of his writer’s block. But they soon find that this hotel holds a dark secret. A secret that turns the father into a killer who is losing his sanity and trying to terrorize and hurt his family.

It is a scary, psychological thriller. The longer the movie plays, the more suspenseful and thrilling it gets.

#2. Rosemary’s Baby

This is a movie about a mother who thinks her baby isn’t from this Earth. She also thinks the new neighborhood they move into is secretly a cult grooming her and her husband. Once she becomes pregnant, she becomes more and more closed off. But they only find out what the baby really is once she gives birth. 

This movie creates the feeling of paranoia, with an insane plot twist, and it constantly creates the aura of mystery.

This movie is a found footage movie, meaning that it is made to look like it was recorded on a phone or camera, to make it feel more real. This is an exceptionally scary movie. Some even say this is a “perfect” psychological horror movie.

The Blair Witch Project psychologically messes with the audience’s mind, making the movie feel less acted out and more realistic, while still creating a very horrific atmosphere.

The Babadook is a supernatural psychological horror movie about a mother and her child who see a supernatural monster called the Babadook. It then tries to terrorize the family.

This movie explores grief and other emotions. It tells a story of the emotional toll it takes to be a mother to a child who lost their father.

#5 The Silence Of The Lambs

This movie is about Clarice Starling, a top student at an FBI academy. Jack Crawford, the leader of the Behavioral Unit at the academy, wants her to interview a brilliant psychopathic psychiatrist who has very violent tendencies.

This movie dives into the mind and shows off a psychopath who can hide and blend in very well. It is a riveting movie and I’d recommend it to anyone who thinks they can take it.
