Comics, a thing from the past that never really went away. Some could say it’s a fad but honestly, it’s part of literature now! A small book you could have bought for a couple of quarters is now one of the biggest inspirations out there. Even inspiring most young kids into reading for enjoyment! Comics started a big wave of movies and even full length novels after your favorite characters.
Speaking of characters, we asked our school about comics. And (not surprisingly) Batman won by a landslide for favorite comic character. Spider Man is in second and The Joker in third. Also there were some surprising characters in there too like Mystique, Scott Pilgrim, and even Jesus! (is He a comic character? (Note from the editor: Yes, He is.))
Of course characters aren’t all that always mattered in comics, genre is especially important. You’ve all seen the classic hero vs villain comic trope and saving the world comics. So instead of getting favorites we decided to get genres people would like to see more of. The top answer was horror/thriller but also, surprisingly, action was second place. Action honestly is a big place in comics so I’m surprised to see that. And finally in third is mystery/crime, even I would like to see more of that.
When you think about comics, where did you read your first? It’s a question most of us don’t quite know. But a big one is definitely the newspaper, the paper you would find your grandparents or family reading with a nice cup of joe. Also, it so happens paper newspapers are going extinct, though under all that world news bringing your day down, there’s one good thing, the comic strips! Though predictably most people these days don’t read the newspaper comics anymore.
Whether you like comics or not, everyone must admit their prevalence in the media. Either through your favorite book store or the newspaper, comics have influenced the world. So maybe, with that in mind, go to your favorite book or comic store and buy one, if you’re lucky, maybe you’ll find they are still as cheap as they used to be.
