Voting season has officially commenced and all people who vote will be flocking to try to help their candidate win. Of course if you’re reading this article, welcome! You readers are most likely 18 because you have to be, in order to vote. You have earned a right, fought for throughout history, to vote!
Of course, you may be confused about how to get registered. Luckily, there is still plenty of time! Of course the easiest and simplest way is to register online, but if you choose this, be careful to ensure everything, and I mean everything, at the NM MVD is matching and up to date. But if you prefer, you can print a form and send it via mail, though the deadline for registration via this avenue is strictly set at October 8, 2024.
First, you may be a little confused, but you basically need 3 things:
- Your social security number (take your SS card if you can’t remember it),
- A driver’s license or state ID card, and
- Know your date of birth, but honestly, that’s not that hard.
Now that you should have all your required items prepared, you will have to register and vote. You can simply go to NMVote.org. The website also contains all the other boring requirements on voting, and you should probably read that too!
Cibola Seniors, you have the opportunity to register to vote here at school on Monday, September 23rd, 2024. Have your photo ID and know your Social Security number. If you are turning 18 on or by election day, November 5th, you will be able to vote in this presidential election. You can still register even if you are not 18 by that time; you’ll be all set to vote in local and state elections that happen throughout the year, and can catch the next presidential election cycle in four years.
The NMvote.org website has everything you will need to register or update your registration online. The website has a lot if info on the parties and candidates, too.
Now that you have been updated, get out there! Though please be on time, as voting not open forever. Get your registration done by November 5th to vote for the president. Happy voting!
(PS: Don’t answer people who come to your door asking who you’re voting for. Unless you want a hour long lecture until they convince you, just say you’re voting and don’t know who you are voting for yet. Or better yet, just shut the door!)
