Poetry still lives

Edgar Allen Poe. Sylvia Plath. William Shakespeare. Walt Whitman. All names you’ve heard, maybe even read some of their works. These are just some of the famous poets we’ve all had the chance of reading, witnessing their feelings and feeling their emptions through their words.

Poetry is an art form that is known to be quite controversial, and while there are many that would argue to poetry’s lack of art. They argue that its unused and forgotten or gushy. There are several people that can tell you how unnecessary poetry is. But to a select few, its a way to express long repressed feelings. An art piece that uses creativity to spread personal awareness.  Poetry can be made by anyone and whether deemed “good” or not, is nonetheless a form of art.

Those who enjoy it have described it as a way to enter one’s soul. A process to understand someone in a way no one ever will. Using metaphors and descriptions you enter a whole new world. You feel everything; it is intense and raw. You become connected to something inside of yourself. A piece of poetry is made of key elements such as sound and rhyme, figurative language, subject, theme, mood, and more. Put together in stanzas and verses, recited with passion and feeling. Poets use their deepest feelings to create a connection with not only themselves, but others as well. People read these pieces, it ressonates with them, and they feel understood. If a certain piece isnt of your taste, you can easily find a different themed or toned piece that represents you. Poetry uses literature and emotions to connect us to something and we severely take for granted the access to different poets and poetry pieces we have.

Here is an easy link to some of the most enjoyed pieces in poetry from DiscoverPoetry.com.
