 How To Find Credible Sources

Be aware of the sites you visit and use these tips to find the best, most reliable internet resources.

When you are doing some research online you should know to get good information. The first thing you should note is the website; you should be looking for a .org or .gov, anything other than that is a higher risk of finding false information.

Next, check to see if the author is known for writing credible articles.

Another thing to do is to find other articles or places of information to see if the information you’re finding is true and not made up.

If a website is selling something, like their own product, try avoiding that and go somewhere else. Look for propaganda that has bias and most times gives false information.

If there are lots of ads on the website it might not be good. If a website like wikipedia can allow people to change what the things people are writing about that wouldn’t be a good idea to go to get information.

Make sure the article or website is staying on topic, and if it goes in a completely different direction the article may have false information.

Ask your teacher or someone you know is good with this kind of thing, if they have any suggestions for some website to get information on. “If you’re looking for stuff on countries and states, Culture Grams is really good for that but if you’re looking for scouring articles and stuff use Gale Database,” is the advice from Ms. Flores Lozano, our Cibola librarian.
