All APS schools are out Monday, January 15, 2024 to Celebrate MLK Day

We all take a day off of school; MLK day is a federal holiday observed on the third Monday in January, near his birth date of January 15th, to recognize the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. who was assassinated on April 4, 1968.

In Albuquerque, there will be weekend events to celebrate his Civil Rights legacy. According to visitAlbuquerque.org, at 10am on Saturday, January 13, 2024 there will be a march/parade to show support for the historical impact Martin Luther King made for the world. The MLK Commemorative March will begin at the Corner of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Ave. and University Blvd. NE on the UNM Campus. A ceremony at Civic Plaza will take place following the march No tickets are necessary for the march and ceremony on Saturday; come and celebrate his legacy.

On Sunday January 14, 2023 there will be a Martin Luther King Mass at St. Joseph’s church. Monday will feature a breakfast and lunch, with tickets required for each event. More information is available here
